Training in Internal Audit

General training

Whichever your focus when you join us, you’ll be given a strong foundation of knowledge to build on, covering all the basic principles of auditing. Beyond that, we’ve set up structured development plans and outlined various competencies that you’ll learn throughout your time with us. In other words, there’s always something new to learn – and you’ll always know what to concentrate on next.

Graduate Development Programme

In addition to a thorough induction when you first arrive, you will be involved in an eighteen-month graduate development programme. This is a foundation-level management development programme specifically designed with you in mind. You’ll learn how to manage projects, deliver powerful presentations and foster effective teams. However, this is about more than just your day job. You will develop new techniques in group problem-solving. You’ll learn how to plan strategically. You’ll gain skills in motivation, goal setting, giving feedback – everything you need, in fact, to become a great manager of people.

Professional Qualifications

You will study towards professional exams, such as an IIA Diploma in Internal Audit Practice. This is a recognised hall mark of excellence, and a diverse diploma in itself, covering a range of modules: management, accounting and financial systems, internal audit, corporate governance and risk management and business information systems auditing. In other words, you'll get to study a broad range of modules that will complement the experience you're gaining within the business.

We'll sponsor you fully and give you time out to study for this qualification. It's a combination of classroom and distance learning: meaning you'll get the chance to test your knowledge of the modules sent out to you in a formal learning environment.

You'll have plenty of study buddies here too: many people within our Internal Audit department have taken these exams – or are in the process of taking them – so there will be a wealth of knowledge and experience to draw from.

Mentoring and support

When you join, you’ll have a dedicated mentor to guide you through the programme, and answer any questions you may have about the who’s, where’s, what’s and why’s. He or she will also be on hand to offer you any other advice – professional or personal. They’ll work with your line manager to help you take your development forward, and introduce you to people it’d be helpful to know.

You’ll also have the benefit of experienced and highly talented professionals around you every step of the way, and work with a variety of different lead auditors.

As you develop, we’ll help you identify new areas to increase your skills, and organise training that will take you that next step up when you’re ready – and not a minute later

Challenges and activities

As part of your development, you’ll have the chance to contribute directly to our local and global impact through our Sustainable Futures Trophy programme. Working in a team, you’ll look at new ways we can genuinely tackle social or environmental challenges in how we do business. You’ll also arrange and take part in a Community Day with your fellow graduates, as part of our Helping Hands programme - and get involved in national challenges, such as the Times Leadership Challenge.
